BUTTERCUPS & DAISYS at STEAMY WELLSHURST !!

Twas a humid ole day at Wellshurst and thunder could be heard around us. We somehow managed to miss the lightening, although got rained on for a couple of holes. Despite all the weather dramas, some surprisingly good golf was played. Swear replacements were learnt from Caroline (Buttercups & Daisys) and our Winner - Stacey had us in fits of laughter talking about inputing her scores “I did it on the computer at work” - quickly followed by “I don’t go to work, I’m retired !!!” - Think the heat had gone to her head!! Ps if you see this woman wandering around Brighton - just point her in the direction of the golf course - she’s safe there.

The Sun Shines at Seaford Head - 10th June 2023

TWAS A SCORCHER AT SEAFORD HEAD and Drama with a Banana

It turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year so far! But fortunately we did have a small Seaford breeze coming off the sea. A fabulous day was had by all and some great golf was played. Caron’s mum Liz played the first 5 or 6 holes (video below). We had a ‘banana’ incident with a crow descending on our buggy and stealing a banana from Liz’s plastic bag! but all in all a super day.

NEW GIGS T-SHIRTS 1st DAY OUT !

May BH Monday saw us return to the fabulously inclusive facility that is Abbey Hill Golf Course, Milton Keynes. Super hospitality, food and golf course.  We were joined by Sandra, who lives just around the corner.

This venue is literally bursting with golf participation in all shapes and sizes: Adventure Golf, 9 hole short Course, Footgolf and the very nice 18 hole track which we played.  From start to finish, we had a superb day, albeit was a little chilly on the 1st tee - but soon warmed up!

Good Fri at Cranleigh GC - Fri 7th April 2023 - Easter Egg Hunt

A last minute golf course switch from Mannings to CRANLEIGH GOLF CLUB saw us bathing in sunshine as we navigated the layout with the ‘Newbie” taking 1st Prize, a ‘first ever’ NTP Winner and a discussion regarding the Lesbian Tunnel over supper !!

We played a Better Ball Team game running alongside an Individual Stableford Competition. Caron hopped between the 3 teams and her score was used if needed.

We enjoyed the comfort of an exclusive room - The Snug - where we had some excellent food and service.

Side note: Caron & The ‘Newbie’ Stacey grew up in the same town, Rayleigh and went to the same school - albeit - years apart. After a little discussion of our lives, Sue concluded that we had both escaped Rayleigh via the ‘Lesbian Tunnel’

Hurtmore Golf Club - What a super day! Sat 11th March 2023

We all had endured so much rain leading up to our day at Hurtmore Golf Club, so we approached with trepidation. But our fears were soon laid to rest as the course was in excellent condition and reasonably dry underfoot. Designed by the late Peter Allis, the greens were of a very high standard and TRICKY !

We played an Individual Stableford with NTP comps and some Mystery Hole Prizes. A fab day was had by all in the gorgeous spring air.

The Clubhouse was very friendly, with exceptionally efficient staff and good hearty food.

Side note: In the pic below, Caron is holding a Ball Marker sent to her from the USA LGBT Golf Group - Stonewall Golfers who are based in Palm Springs, California and want us to play a match with them!

Good Fri at Mannings Heath GC - Fri 15th April 2022 - Easter Eggs turned into Wine!

A super fun day was had at Mannings Heath Golf Club as we played a Team Texas Scramble for 9 holes, followed by an Individual Stableford for the back 9. Competition was keenly fought as we basked in glorious sunshine for our 2nd event of 2022. We enjoyed the excellent clubhouse facilities at Mannings Heath, with a private room for our group where we had a lovely supper.

Good Friday normally means Easter Egg Prizes - but due to extremely warm weather - prizes melt in the Car!!! ….…. luckily Mannings Heath also doubles up as a vineyard !!

Abbey Hill GC - Sat 19th March 2022 - the Rainbow flag flew with Pride for GIGS

A fun day was had by all at Abbey Hill Golf Centre, Milton Keynes. 9 of us enjoyed a sun drenched day, albeit, a little windy at times and once we overcame the challenge of the ‘Hedgehog wheel drama’ - we had a terrific day. Abbey Hill was buzzing with lots of people enjoying the Driving Range, Adventure Golf, Foot Golf and the main 18 which we played. Everyone we encountered were friendly, welcoming, polite and seemed to be enjoying themselves. The General Manager, Russell Heady came and introduced himself to our group and informed us that the ENGLAND GOLF RAINBOW FLAGs had been put out on both the 10th and 18th Greens to welcome GIGS. It was a fantastic gesture by a progressive and welcoming club and our group really appreciated it. The food was very tasty and the clubhouse was vibrant. The course was a good track, with a nice mixture of challenging holes with some fab views. The GM said he would put the Rainbow Flags out every 3-4 weeks to demonstrate that the club is a welcoming space for all. PROGRESS !!

Cloudy Cottesmore - 7th Aug 2021

A fun afternoon was had by all at Cottesmore Golf & Country Club and despite the awful weather in many areas, we somehow managed to avoid any major downpours. Was a little waterproofs on, waterproofs off, waterproofs on , waterproofs off, but was warm and the course & facilities were nice and the food was enjoyed by all. It was lovely to see lots of new faces and some of the ‘newbies’ sporting their prized GIGS Beanie. See Results further below.

Wonder at Wellshurst - 5th June 2021

We were a small, but bubbly group at Wellshurst Golf Club for our June meet up. Nestled in the Sussex Countryside, Wellshurst is always very welcoming and a very nice track to play. The sun shone, the company was fabulous and all in all we had a lovely day.

A Golden Rabbit at Tilgate Forest - Sun 2nd May 2021

We arrived in the rain and departed in the rain, with some sunshine and showers in-between. Lots of time spent in the woods (they are lovely woods), lots of fun looking for balls, but we all still managed a smile and a laugh. A rather up and down day, but some good golf played in-between the blobs! A Golden Rabbit was almost the highlight!! Well done to the prize-winners:

1st TEE FUN

What a wonderful start to the year we had on Good Friday at Mannings Heath and even though it was chilly, it did not stop us having a lot of fun. We played a 9 hole Texas Scramble in Teams of 4, followed by a short prize-giving, before a few of us, went on to play a few more holes. Big thanks to Maddie for bringing her camera!

Caron will book and pay for tee times on Monday 19th OCT afternoon - so please let her know if you are confirmed. She will then send you exact green fee rate for payment via bank transfer.

• ENGLAND GOLF - LGBT SURVEY - GIGS has been consulted by England Golf to participate in a Survey they are putting together regarding the LGBT experience of playing golf - THEY’VE NOTICED US - YEAH!!! Caron will forward more details in due course.

• GIGS GOLF SUN 22nd NOV 2020 - Caron is sourcing a golf course, where both regular players and beginners can potentially all play together at the same venue, for either 18 or 9 (depending on ability) - so please let CARON know asap if you can/would like to play on this day?

New! Bitesize Basics with Jade

Learn the Basics of Golf with Jade

Quite often as a beginner, nobody really tells you what you may be doing wrong on the golf course until you’ve done it! Which, at times, can feel quite daunting and demoralising. Plus, could add a couple of penalty shots to your score! To help you out we’ll be dropping some Bitesize Basics of Golf with Jade.

As a beginner, Jade is slowly learning all the do’s and don’ts of golf and now you can learn with her via our Bitesize Basics of Golf. In her own words, Jade will cover topics like Bag Management, The Tee Box, Sand Play, starting this week with Ready Golf, Etiquette & Respect.

Over the next few weeks, Bitesize Basics will be dropping each Friday in our Members Only area. Even if you have been playing a while, these will be fun to read.

So check back each Friday and let’s make golf fun, enjoyable and less daunting for all of us.

Driving Range Meet-Ups

#GIGSSocial - Let’s meet at the Driving Range!

GIGS are hosting some social driving range meet-ups within the Sussex, Surrey and Essex areas.  Cos let’s face it, we all need to practise!  It will be a great way to get to know each other and maybe help one another with our swings!  

#GIGSSocial Driving Range meet-ups are informal and non-members are welcome to attend.  So bring your friends! Once you arrive to the Driving Range, purchase your bucket of balls, make yourself known to us and let’s practise!
